Haven't used a gun to deer hunt since 1991.

Both. I carry a rifle on cold days when I'm bundled up & carry my bow on warmer days. I sure would love to stick one with my bow.

I do like most folks have mentioned. Gun for nasty weather, cutovers, etc. Bow for nice days and hardwoods.

BOHNTR (or anyone) not hijacking again lol...but, is it bad on modern compound bows to hunt with them in the rain ? Or...is is not recommended ??

I didn't ask this question when I bought my bow...and...I can't find the answer online. Your post prompted me to ask this.

I keep a thin coating of bee's wax on my string/cable after every hunt but I worry about the cams and accessories getting drenched. (I already had the bee wax and know there's products available for this)

Mathews doesn't mention anything in depth about rain hurting modern bows in their manual that I can find.

Thanks for any help or advice on this from you or other experienced bow hunters.

No reason to keep the bow dry, that I know of.
In fact, I'd rather get my bow wet than a scoped rifle.
I will sometimes drag my ol 30-30 (no scope) out in the bad weather.

Not against the law to carry both,as long as unantlered season is open where you hunt.Hide the gun and when that buck skirts you at 75yds cause he thinks your bowhunting,bust him with the long bow.

it's hard to leave ithe mathews behind but it's hard to leave the gun behind too. Just depends on where I'm hunting.

I just have a fear that it's gun season and I'm bowhunting and freak nasty mossy horns shows up just outside my bow range. You'd think that would make my decision easy but then I think, dang...how nice would it be for a freak to walk out in the field in my bow range and I have to take him with a gun. So I usually just stand at the truck for 15 minutes going back and forth and just leave both behind and take my swiss army knife and decide to try and chase'm down on foot. I'll let you know when I get one.

Me too...re: a scoped rifle in the rain.

I have a cheaper Remington bolt action '06... mdl. 710 w/a cheap scope from a trade that I use...it's a bugger to work the action fast because the bolt won't function easily. But it busts a cap every time and is accurate enough...and suits it's purpose.
