We keep hearing this nonsense about relying on opec. We could produce and refine our own oil if we kept our oil here, and opened up more areas. That would keep our military here too. It’s only because the saudis use the US dollar to sell and value their oil. It’s why they paid the USA the cost of the desert storm war, when Iraq invaded Kuwait. Like Kuwait is worth even 1 American life. But the next place was gonna be Saudi Arabia for Saddam. And that couldn’t be allowed to happen. If the true cost of oil from the Middle East was paid by the oil companies, instead of the US military providing safety and security in countries and on the high seas, we wouldn’t afford it over oil from elsewhere. But there is way to much money thrown in the military industrial complex. Our government is only used to control us.
Why would we want to use up all of our oil when we can use up other countries' oil? Save ours for when we need it. I think that is a good idea, but it has to be somewhat balanced over decades or we'd pay them too much for too long before we move back to our oil.
