You can search for the different repeaters around the area. You can use this site to find some of the repeaters available in AL. I know this is not all, as the Bibb County repeater is not on there. Make sure that you only check the 2m and 70cm bands at the top before submitting, as these are the only 2 bands supported on the uv-82hp. You can also search for some of the rural LEO/First Responder repeaters as well, but they are slowly moving to digital and you will lose that ability on the uv-82hp. ETA - go ahead and get the adapter and an external antenna to use on that radio for scanning. My son used a mag-mount car antenna stuck to a metal cookie sheet to improve reception in his bedroom.
