ok...so I just took advice and started the lathe. still figuring it out, but it's really fun and cool.

anyone have hardwood chunks they want to get rid of? I have some hickory I'm learning with, and have made a few cool little beginner things, but it is clear I am gonna need a lot of hard wood. Maple, Hickory, oak, pecan, cherry?. I have some (a little) of each but need more. not your 20 inch stumps from Sally..but 4-6 inch limbs? dried as much as possible..will throw some $$ at aldeer for folks who toss up wood.

shanks a Yot

What kind of pieces do you plan to turn? Are you wanting spindle blanks, bowl blanks or something else?

You can glue 1xs together for good practicing wood. I’m not an expert but getting logs don’t work so good if you don’t let them dry out some.

spindle blanks for now. haven't graduated to bowls just yet. bark on it is fine. I took the hickory logs that were about 12 inches and sliced most of the bark off with a band saw then they turned really well, prob aged a year, but I'm still practicing so these aren't really being made into gifts or cherished treasures yet..
