Heck, just play with it. Imagine what you want to make then think about how you want to accomplish it. Start simple. If that don't work get a book to learn the basics or watch you tube. Biggest thing is to be safe with it. Keep your center tight. Turn unbalanced stock slow until it is balanced especially if it's heavy. Only use sharp gouges, and keep your tool rest close to your workpiece. Wear PPE.
