Private land is different. If you’re surrounded by a bunch of folks that own 20-40 acres that insist on killing their 4-5 deer then you’re screwed. All these folks are well within their rights to do so but you’ll never manage deer under those situations. AMEN!
Private land here. We do what we can with what we have. I’m gonna make sure our hunting is Fun and as productive as possible. Over the last 10-15 years or so, I’ve shot one buck for every 9-10 I’ve seen on average. I’ve lightened up on all the deer in general in hopes they grow or my kids get a chance at them. I don’t adhere to any certain rules. If I could kill 20-30 bucks a year and I only kill 2 or so, I think I’m doing my part and then some. Multiple hunts each year I see 3-4 bucks.
