Both kids have been hunting with me but never together and my daughter has never seen a deer killed at all. So last Sunday, I decided I’d attempt to take both kids at the same time. We have a couple of shooting houses at the club big enough for 3 folks so we climbed up in one of the houses and hoped for the best. I figured it would be tough to keep 2 kids quiet but they did surprisingly good. About 415, I’d just finished explaining how the last hour or so of the day is when you’re most likely to see a deer, when I heard something running through the woods. A doe popped out to our right and ran across the road and by the time I could even get my gun out the window, she was gone. A few seconds later, a 6pt came out chasing her. Stopped him in the road, told the kids to cover their ears and shot him. Ran about 50yds (straight down a hill) and crashed. We ended up having to winch him back to the top of the hill up to the road to get him loaded up. This was only my 2nd deer in about 6 yrs and my last one was 2 yrs ago, so I was thrilled. It was also the first time I’d attempted to take both kids and the first time my daughter has seen a deer killed. They both had a blast and we got to go home with a cooler full of meat.
