shot a big doe about a half hour before dark. my little jack russell Hedy found the blood trail (double-lung spray caused by a 300-grain .45-70 bullet) chop chop and took the bride and me right to the dead doe about 60 yards through a little thicket and into the pines. i'm basically one-handed because of a distal radius breakage; the brace came off today, and my left hand (i'm left handed) is still weak as a wet kitten. anyhow, it was a trip getting the deer loaded up. i am blessed with a fine helpmate, and a good little dog. it was Hedy's first trail, and with no training, to boot. she got a little deer blood painted on her snoot.
