When is the scientific community going to address the issue of reduced recruitment/coyote predation??
We, as Sportsmen and Outdoorsmen are going to have to finance it. I don't know if we can match the amount of money that the insurance and ag businesses threw at reducing the population........But, we need to try!

Well, we hit $1,350 from a total of 14 backers. 37 days left to hit $5,000.

Steve I've hit up everyone I know for help. I still have my fingers crossed I think it is a great investment.

Dang! Where have I been? OK, I'll $upport the project but I didn't see how to give in this thread. I'll go back and reread it.
People also tend to think that giving a small amount won't help but even $10 or $5 per person, ADDS UP!

If you'll look at the first few posts, you'll see a link from Dr. D.
Read it and find out.

What is the benefit of this study? What does it tell us that improves deer hunting in Alabama? I'm not being a jerk, but rather I'm truly that ignorant.

If we knew the ideal habitat for fawns to successfully hide in, we could work to create those kind of areas. At least that is my understanding.

The study is about understanding the biology of an animal. Every management decision that is made about deer or any other species is grounded in a firm understanding of biology. By improving our understanding of how predators find fawns, or how fawns avoid predators, we can make better decisions about what things can be done to improve fawns survival.

Shooting coyotes has never been shown to be a very effective solution for reducing predator numbers enough to influence fawn survival. Trapping has been shown to be effective, but is not financially feasible for everyone. There might be other alternatives as well. Maybe certain things that can be done with habitat? The only way to identify some of these other alternatives is to study and understand the biology/ecology of the animal(s) in question.

Well...at the pace we're going, it doesn't look like we are going to make it. Hopefully some supporters will jump on board and make it happen. But, whatever happens...thanks so much to all of you who took the time to check out the site, and for showing your financial support. I know who many of you are and I greatly appreciate it.
Steve
