I was hunting this evening when a hawk flew down from behind me and landed on my arm. When I turned to see what was on me, he flew off smacking me on the head with his wings. I was just wondering what strange stories other aldeer members have?

I've been sitting at the base of a tree and a squirrel run down my chest and jump off my leg that came down the tree. Not sure who was more scared - me or the squirrel.

I had a racoon come half way up my tree before looking up to see me staring straight at him. I finally decided he needed to know I wasn't going anywhere, so I scared him back down the tree. I'm glad he decided to retreat.

I climbed a Whiteoak tree near a creek one morning before daylight on a foggy morning and kept feeling drops of rain or dripping fog on me. I kept smelling something unususal everytime the wind swirled around me, but couldn't figure out what it was. As the dawn broke I looked up as another round of the moisture droplets bounced off the brim of my hat and noticed the two huddled figures in a limb fork 15 feet above me. Two racoons were providing me with a golden shower and free cover scent.

I had a friggin snake above me in the tree one time He was in a birds nest trying to get the babies. He started to crawl down the trunk towards me and when he got close enough I slapped him off the tree with one of my arrows.

two buddies were goin huntin one afternoon. Jerry went to the shootin house on a food plot and John went in the woods next to the food plot and sat down by a big oak tree. About an hour later Jerry hears John screamin and hollerin and then he comes bustin out of the woods scared to death and then he runs to the truck. Jerry, knowin his hunt is done with runs to the truck to see what could have possibly happened to his buddy. When Jerry reached the truck John was hunched over pantin and was white as a ghost. Jerry hollered "John are you all right?" When John finally caught his breath he said "Well, when that bear crawled up the tree I was sittin under I didn't move didn't do nuthin. When that rattlesnake crawled across my legs I didn't even flinch. But when them two squirrels run up my britches and said are we gonna eat these here or takem with us I had to get the hell out of there!"

I've had a squirrel jump on my shoulder and I bout jumped out the tree but the strangest thing was a buddy of mine was bowhunting and fell asleep sitting on the ground and woke up to a small 6 point smelling his boots where he still had the scent pads with doe urine strapped on. He said that buck turned inside out when he sat up and said "HEY".
Finally deported myself from the peoples republik of Kaliforkistan.

Several years ago I discovered that if you were laying down turkeys would absolutely ignore you and I was observing some one time in ST. Clair county and I had discovered that they came to the bait at exactly 1pm and you could almost set your watch by them. On this particular day I went down about 1230, put my camo boat cushion against the base of a tree and laid down looking at the baited area between my boots. In just a little while I saw a movement down the ridge and I thought to myself, "here they come." But it was not turkeys,it was a great big raccoon. He came on up the ridge stopping every now and then to eat a curnel of corn. When he got about 10 yards from me he saw the bottom of my boot and bristle up, growled, spit a couple times and went back to noseing around. When he lost the focus on my boot I would move my foot ever so slightly and he would go into that bristled, humped up, tail twitching, snarling stance for a few seconds then back to he noseing around. This went on for several minutes and several times. He never noticed anything about me except the bottom of my boot. Now he is about 3 feet from my foot. I moved it and he bowed up, snarling and spitting and I moved it back and forth real fast and he jumped straight up about 4 feet into the air and came down on the side of a 6 inch diameter pen oak. He scooted around to the far side and was peering around it at my foot. About this time I began to think I might should make my self visible to him or he might actually attack my foot. I set up, fast and he actually fell off the tree backwards, kicking leaves every where trying to get traction and went down through the woods about as fast as a coon can run, with me laughing out loud behind him.

I had to flare a hawk that was coming straight for my head net a couple of weeks ago. I think I scared him worse than he scared me. He made a loop and lit in the top of the tree next to me, look at me for about 30 seconds and kept going.

In 1988, a friend let me borrow his spare compound bow to hunt deer. I bought 3 arrows and some Fred Bear broadheads and went hunting. Sitting on the deer trail two weird things happened. First, a chipmunk eased atop a coke can laying about 3 feet away and watched me for several minutes. The chipmunk finally jumped off the coke can and eased up to the Fred Bear broadhead tip...sniffed it...jumped back without giving the alarm shriek...and sniffed it some more. He had that head and neck really stretched out long. lol He finally put both front feet on the BH and pulled at it. I never moved and he never became alarmed...and he finally zipped back to his stump hole den and disappeared.
Then...minutes after the chipmunk...a small, brown bird (wood thrush possibly ??) flew down nearby me. He finally flew down and perched atop the arrow shaft. I couldn't believe it.
One morning calling up a gobbler near the Tallapoosa river...a group of 5 does came up and stopped 50 yards away. The gobbler was drumming and coming in so me and my dad sat still. All at once the does startled and stampeded for some reason. They came straight for us on a flat-out run and didn't see us in our camo ! At the last possible moment my father jabbed the barrel of his model 11 Remington at the leading doe and she jumped over both of us...missing us by inches....hooves slashing the air. I saw her eyes up close and personal...and man were those eyes wide and terrified looking when we moved. (the gobbler hushed and never came in)

I have had the hawk item twice. They didn't actually land on me but were real close when they figured out that I wasn't a tree or something to eat.
I saw a 6 foot tall beaver stump in Idaho on an elk hunt. I just wish I had had a camera on that one. That should make you scratch your head for a second.
