I thought that this was a cool picture that I came across. The size of elk & moose always amaze me. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.redd.it/0645jx8gbe161.jpg)

If we get those here on WMA’s, packing one out like that could cause an ammo shortage.

I love hinting elk but honestly the risk isn’t worth it, although there is a captive heard not farm from Bankhead around Addison or there was a few years ago.

IIRC there was an attempt to reintroduce elk to north Alabama quite a long time ago. I'm sure someone will chime in with more information.

KY, TN,NC, and now WV have reintroduce them, just not sure AL has a large enough area of very low population density to do it.

I believe disease played a part as well. Been a while since I read the article. https://www.outdooralabama.com/elk/alabama-elk-experiment

Heck, most bama hunters have a hard time passing up a young doe just barely out of spots and you think they would be able to let an elk walk by

Most hunters don’t walk more than a half mile from their vehicle. That leaves plenty of room for the elk to survive.

I’d be covered in Orange from head to toe with flashing lights and a siren going off if I had to pack those horns out on my back. My luck I’d have the first time hunter with coke bottle glasses stalking me from the next ridge over.

With the way all the land is leased in Alabama, and elk tag would almost be useless without having thousands of animals. You know you’re not going to get permission to hunt the neighbors property LOL. Elk are also very destructive that’s why next week I’ll probably start trying to fill my damage tag and my freezer 😆

That is a really large elk, but I think that guys is kinda small as well, making the elk look larger.
