Thanks guys. Me and my buddy hung this stand Thursday at lunch. The loggers had just finished thinning this section. I heard the deer milling around about a 150 yards to my SW. squirrels were going nuts. Anyway they eased off the hill, through the SMZ and came in on a depression that runs through these pines, four bucks in total. I knew exactly which buck this was since I have 3 years of pictures of him. He trotted through the pines, I macked at him and put one behind the shoulder at maybe 50 yards. He jumped, turned a 180 and walked 5 steps so I put another one behind the shoulder for insurance and he dropped. Well two of the other bucks ended up circling behind me at about 12 yards and I was able to film them. None of the deer could figure out what was going on.

Got him out and he weighed 201. That’s a big bodied deer for our area since we have no ag land within 5 miles. We do feed very heavily and our plots are fantastic, good acorn crop too. Couple of firsts for me. First buck I’ve ever killed on the gun opener and that’s the first buck we’ve ever shot in November on this property (had it 7 years now). Our favorite biologist Mr Brock has been out several times so we could pick his brain. This is roughly 700 acres, with 3 people hunting total. It’s also the FIRST hunt this year on that property and the 8th buck we have taken in the past 6 years.

Man what a morning. Think I’ll take a nap and hit the other lease with my son this evening. Maybe we can double up.

Edit. I was shooting 150g TTSX at 3250 out of a 7mag. Wound channels indicated good expansion. He was just tough.

I’m perched high in the bleachers at a wrestling tournament. grin Me and my boys love hunting but are addicted to wrestling, their choice of sport. Hoping to get in the woods Monday and Wednesday.

Some outlaw shot around 5:37. Had a girl kill a 125# nanner head around 8:30. She is a slayer. Had a broke foot and her dad had to drive her to the stand. I have an idea who shot. Have yet to hear if he killed one.
