Looking to take my wife on her first hunting trip. She wants to go but does not want to spend a lot of money. We have a camper and don’t really need to have meals provided for us. Is there any outfitters that would accommodate just Hunting and no food or lodging.

I wonder if riverbend lodge in Myrltewood Alabama would work with you. You can google hunting lodges in Alabama and find a lot of places - call and ask - they usually show pricing etc

I don’t really have a budget but hopefully cutting out food and lodging would get us a lot less than $2000 for 3 days of hunting

A lot of private schools have reasonable hunts that probably would fit you.

I wouldn’t pay to hunt any hunting lodge in Alabama.

The school thing is a good idea - Wilcox use to hv good hunt - be cheaper than lodge too

I have never heard of anyone actually having a good hunt at an Alabama pay hunting lodge. Their success rates are low. For the same price you can go to Texas or another state where you can actually have a chance at a nice buck.

Truth. I've been to a couple of big name places when someone else was paying and the only decent thing about the trips was the food.

Hunting sucked.

That is true but if we stay in state we don’t have to pay non resident prices

Many states have a 3 or 5 day non resident licence option so you don't have to pay full price.

Unless it's a high fence operation, all Alabama outfitters have to run as many hunters as they can every week of the season to stay in business. A lot of them haven't been able to stay open in recent years and have shut down. The pressure on the land is far more than most hunting clubs which suppresses deer activity. I was on a hunt last season at a well known outfitter last February. There were about two dozen people in our group. In three days, only two does were shot and most hunters were watching empty green fields. I did the most shooting...I killed two bobcats.

On a budget of $2000, you can get in a pretty nice club and hunt all season.

You need to hook up on one of them Academy hunts.

Macon East Montgomery Academy hunts are pretty good. My dad and I went about 15 years ago. Seems like the pricing was close to $800 each back then. We had a good time and lodging and meals are included.

Do you have dates you want to hunt? I have been thinking about off setting my planting costs this year in some way and we might be able to work something out. I have 320 highly managed and low pressure acres in se Bama.I have never been to a lodge but based on what these guys are saying it sounds like hunting would be better on my place, last year on average there were about six deer seen per sit. The most was over 20.of course it is hunting and sometimes they just don’t move but it is rare not to see multiple deer on a sit You can park camper at barn and do your own food thing but hunting would be turn key. If you think you would be interested shoot me a pm. I had a couple of local Aldeer guys as guests last year and I think they had a pretty good time.

Check out some of the private school hunts. They are usually during the rut also. I’m not sure which schools still have them but someone on here with updated info on those will chime in.
