I rarely (obviously) post anything but I need a little info if someone can help. My wife's elderly grandparents are down there without power. Does anyone know if it will be restored anytime soon or do I need to load up and head that way?
Location, location, location. If he is on the same line as a Hospital, Nursing home, police station, fire station, the Mayor's house, etc. they will likely have power before most. Populous areas will also likely get power before the folks out in the county. Of course the amount of damage in each area is also going to factor in. When I lived in Albertville and the Tornader ripped through in 2009, my house just happened to be on the same line as the home of the Director of the municipal utilities board. (MUB) We were neither in the direct path of destruction, but our line ran right through the path. The power on our street was back on in a few short hours. So if your grandparents are in the right location, they could possibly be getting power as you are reading this. Some places it may only be a matter of linemen riding the line then throwing a breaker. Some areas may require a whole rebuild. Hopefully it'll be quick and easy.
