We see bobcats all the time in the sipsey river bottoms. Between me and my bro in law we killed 4 in 2 years. Don't shoot them
Anymore but still see them often.

I like the header, Panther - Alabama native. The reason I like it is that the "Florida" Panther is the same one that lived in Alabama, Georgia,Louisiana, Mississippi and that resides now in Texas and the rest of the western U.S.
Florida biologists were able to reclassify it as a separete species, an endangered one at that, for one reason, federal money.
The hunters of south florida, most if not all, would love for Alabama or any other state to come and get every one of these supposedly endangered cats.
Then hunters in other parts of the country will see what we have been putting up with for decades. As the panther population grows more land is needed for them and more land is taken away from hunters.
Right now a huge scam is going on down here called the Everglades Headwtaers Wildlife refuge. Hundreds of thousands of acres are in danger of going from open hunting to limited or no hunting when this is rammed down our throats. All this for the stinking 'Florida" panther which is no more endangered than house cats.
There is a lot more history to the "discovery" of the panther in Florida but I get too worked up to dwell on it for long.
So go ahead Alabama hunters. Support your state bringing in these cats and see how you like all the new regs that go with it. I never have exactly figured out what the deal is with the state of Florida and all the seperate "Florida" species of animals, plants, fish, etc....

All I ever read on here is how much damage the coyotes are doing to the fawn population and turkey nests. What do you think would happen if the panther population started growing? Also, as was stated earlier, coyotes are already getting to be a major problem in neighborhoods and other populated areas. You aren't going to be able to keep the panthers from coming in contact with humans. Your just asking for trouble. There is no good result coming out of a repopulation attempt. It would increase fawn deaths, turkey deaths, and stir fear in the public which causes chaos.

Ford, you'd just have to put the panthers in the right place...like north Birmingham... My son has played several baseball games at Rickwood Field in B,ham , I'm sure I saw some Black Panthers at Churches Chickin' nere Rickwood.

Saw a bunch of dens near Rickwood as well! I think they come out mostly after dark.  Once we were playing a night game and heard a bunch of shots just outside the field. Cops came from every direction. Don't know what went down, don't care. All we wanted to do is get the hell outa there. Never minded playing there in the day time, but that ain't a good place for a Jackson Co. hillbilly after dark!

I firmly believe that there is such a project in Alabama already, or at least a project to study them and not publish the verified sightings or other proof that they are here. Hell yes, based on all the regular sightings reported on here there ought to be a hunting season on both the "regular" cougars as well as the "black panthers". I think I am the only one who has never seen one

Jaguarundi are in this good ole state of Alabama. i saw one a few years back while hunting in sumter county. this thing was weird looking.
