FC GRHRCH sire bred to a bitch out of a FC AFC x FC breeding due in September. $1200–repeat that’s been really good. I’d venture to guess whatever your breeder has isint bred this well My lab recently died and I was looking around at some breeders and litters available. She was almost 10 years old; I got her from a breeder north of Birmingham in March of 2011. I tracked down the breeder and told them what was going on and that I might be interested in a puppy some where down the road. I had to rethink it after they told me each puppy is $1400. That might be a lot for some folks and others might think that’s not all that outrageous. I spent $800 for her and I would gladly spend that much again and a little more but I was surprised at how much of an increase it was. Kudos to them for being able to swing those prices but not sure Im good with nearly a 50% increase as a returning customer. I ran in ton someone the other day that had a golden doodle they spent $4k on.

I've hunted over a bunch of bird dogs. Sitting here trying to decide if it's closer to 50 or 100, but it doesn't matter. Been a bunch.
I've seen junkyard dogs that were spectacular. I've see 10K dogs that weren't worth a damn.
If a high drive, talented bird dog is what you are after, good genetics is the one way to tip your hand. It doesn't guarantee anything but again, paying big money for a puppy is the smallest expense of raising that dog.
A house pet? $100 dollars or less.

Ebonstar's Lean Mac is in the Hall of Fame an credited with siring more champion dogs than any other lab.....My last lab was out of one of their dogs and another quality female and lord help at the amount drive she had. So much so that I was having a hard time making her a tracking dog....She needed constant working to run off that energy.....That's not what you want for a pet that just hangs out in the back yard.

We had a black lab in texas...i forget the bloodline...but they were specificallly bred to not only retrieve..but point quail also...we guided dove hunts alot and an occasional duck...also had alot of quail hunting..wr needed a dog that could do it all...buyin the pup,obedient school,pointing and retrieving scool....we had like $15k in her...shes magnificent when she wants to be...other times shes worthless...but a finer all around buddy...i love that dog..scary smart and acts like a person....to answer the ops question...id spend $150 on one of them gsp in the classifieds in a skinnit minute if we already didnt have too many critters...purty,purty,purty little critters Kellogg kennels? They had line of pointing labs. My avatar LeRoy could hang with the best of any English Pointers. Quartered and checked back in style. Crazier than a run over dog to boot. Only problem you never knew when was gonna point or when he was gonna flush. That tail starting swinging quick you better get ready. To answer the OP I was about to spend 2K but ended up with a free yellow off a good bloodline. No that dont sound right, these dogs advertised pointing and retrieving due to the system in which they could be trained with a combination of commands,whistle bursts, and hand signals...supposedly you could work her like flippin a switch from pointing quail to retrieving fallen dove. We sent her to washington state on a jet to train..when we got her back..we didnt know how to work her...so we had to have the instructions sent to us...needless to say...we didnt know what we were doin..i know some things about tree dogs but im clueless about wingshooting and the K-9 hunting companions..my daddy was a quail hunter and raised many fine lemon and liver pointers...i have no clue how to properly quail hunt...tho i did guide many...there were so many quail we just rode around until we seen a covey on the road..stopped and busted them..then flushed them barrel up...quiet sucessful too actually...not me...i cant hit squat with a shotgun..but we kilt enough to cook on every hunt. We still use teal(the lab), but for dove and duck retrievel...she kinda sucks at pointing..again probly our fault...for quail now..they hire dog handlers...we had a guy comin with a pair of female gsp and those dogs were amazing.

I didn’t think you were I was just throwing out there a little info for the OP. I remember training with juice as a pup and you could tell that dog was something special. Far as pedigrees go he is stacked with several HOF including lean Mac. Super good dog that can do it all from being a pet, running as a duck dog or compete with the best of the best.
Back to the OP my lab I ran in hunt test and duck hunted hard with who is 12 now was a $250 newspaper lab, not a single title in his pedigree until him. But he is crazy and high driven as all get out. I got him to HRCH title and life got in the way. It takes a ton of money and even more time to get a dog Field trial titles, I didn’t have the dog or time. Quite an accomplishment what juice has done. If I’m not mistaken Juice is the first dog in history to have both a Field Champion and a Grand Hunting retriever champion title

Way to much for our Norwegian Elkhound out of the famed VinMelca kennel (Pat Trotter) in California. But he's the nicest elkhound we've ever owned and by far the best temperament and pet in 25 years with this breed. He'll be a sought after stud dog in a few years and we'll probably start our own kennel then. If we only had moose and elk down South...it'd be awesome!

I bought my Giant Schnauzer for $2k. He’s from a working line and parents both compete in Schutzhund. I planned on doing Schutzhund with him but never realized how time consuming it is. He is a pet but was originally purchased as a protection dog.

Any dog even the worst messed up pup from the pound will make a great tracking dog. Nose - they have it. It's all they need. Willingness to please the owner is nice but not required.

We dropped $1500 on an Aussiedoodle last Christmas. Yes he’s a “boutique” dog but at 9 months old he’s WAY more intelligent than the Weimaraner we had to put down. This dog has some serious intelligence and hopefully by next spring will be finding sheds for me in the woods. The only thing is he thinks he should go with me ANYWHERE and ANYTIME I leave the house. I'd be hard pressed to much money for any dog. I have owned five Belgian Malinois for a total of $250 spent. Every other dog I have ever owned or currently have has been a freebie.
I'd stack my Taz for or current Chief dog against any Mal out there. Both were free dogs.
Best tracking dog I ever saw working was pound found Gretchen, mostly redbone hound.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
