Have y'all heard about the new regulations for hunting deer and turkey in Alabama for this season? I'll post links at the end. We need a Call To Action to get a few strings loosened for this season and then follow through with assuring a change in the regulations for next year! There is a meeting this Saturday where we can all make a difference. If you just want to be heard, call 334-242-3465. In short, the new rule is that hunters must complete a transfer of possession form, which is only valid if it includes your game check confirmation number before you can leave any part of your deer or turkey with a processor, taxidermist, friend etc. For hunters, this would mean that if they do not have a smart phone, access to the internet, or if the app crashes, they must keep their dead animal until they obtain the Game Check Confirmation number. For processors, we will be in violation if caught with any meat without that number. Therefore, there will be even longer lines on a cold Saturday night as we fill out extra paperwork and, the one I am so upset about, we would be forced to turn away customers who have no other means of keeping the meat from ruining, just to prevent citations and fines. Hunters have 48 hours to obtain the Game Check Confirmation number, however, they may not transfer possession without it. It is my goal for processors to also have the 48 hours to receive the number before we are in violation. The ADCNR has implemented this regulation in an effort to have more accurate data to base bag limits and seasons off of. Please read near the bottom of the article below, it is also in their Digest book. We have one shot to make a difference before ADCNR instructs their Enforcement Agents on the particulars of enforcing this, please attend the Conservation Advisory Board Meeting this Saturday if you are in the area (see link) Please call me if you need further explanations: Shana 334-202-9545

Georgia attempted something similar to this and the processors were able to shut it down. They argued that it was not their job to do law enforcement for the state. Also, they were in business to process deer meat and laws like this would cause them to lose business since many of their customers said they would just quit using processors. The processors we used simply refused to ask for or record the info that Georgia claimed they had to have while the law was in effect. The next season, Georgia dropped the requirement.

It is ABSOLUTELY NOT their job. It's called an unfunded state mandate and it's pure horseschit!
Given the general lack of enthusiasm for their job, I don't see our game wardens actively enforcing it anyway.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

I can see the argument from both sides. We all know people are killing deer without proper license and without checking them, that’s a fact! We also know that if this is passed that it would hurt processors business because, well see my first sentence. I wish we could just make folks follow the law but until that happens you’re going to keep seeing things like this pop up. Unfortunately in this state a big number of folks don’t believe the law applies to them, especially when it comes to game laws and they all have google law degrees that they want to test so they stay in a constant pissing match with the state. I’m in no way saying let’s all be boot lickers but damn fellas you can’t side with the outlaws on every single issue. Now this particular law is stupid but there has to be some kind of law and order in this state when it comes to hunting and fishing because right now, quite frankly it’s a damn free for all.

Just get your game check number and write it on the paper you fill out when you drop the deer off. Or maybe y’all would rather they go to a tag system.

Isn’t it amazing when a new law is passed that some people won’t abide by it and the ones who do get punished because of the ones who won’t ? That really makes sense....NOT !!!

Can you imagine a weekend morning an hour after daylight or a weekend evening right at dark when you can actually get the app to work there will be so many people hitting it at those times that piece of crap app will crash. Then you try to call the 1-800 number and everybody is trying to get through on that number. You're sitting there in the processor's parking lot trying to get a number so you can drop your deer off. The processor won't take your deer without the form, you can't get a number, The processor closes for the evening and now you've got a dead deer laying in the back of your truck and can't do anything with it because your city dwelling ass don't know how to process a deer. Better keep an eye on that first bridge over the creek around the processors it's going to load up with deer that people don't have anything to do with.

This will be a step closer towards physical tags. It’ll be like SC where everybody gets their buck tags and a couple of doe tags, then you can pay more for extra antlerless tags if you want them.

You can not call in for a Game Check Confirmation number anymore. You have to go to one of their kiosks frown

This is retribution by Chucky for his rammed down the throats Game Check BS. He is bound and determined to make every hunter that pays his salary an outlaw unless you bow to his POWER!!! If they want this enforced then have the game wardens check in deer for game check at EVERY processor, problem solved! Except that still doesn't solve the people that will kill more deer that the State says you can or for those that don't use processors! Again, it will only impact the people that TRY to abide by the law that Chucky decides he needs to come up with to reduce the amount of hunters in the woods and implement "HIS" management plan!

I would say that the processor or the taxidermist only need a copy of your license to work on your deer, they can simply put a copy machine on the table. Up to the game warden to verify your game check number, they can simply look you up by license number and verify your call in. Some of my meat deer are literally minutes off the hoof when I deliver to the processor. I have 48hrs to legally get my number. I am not going to wait on processing my deer.

Last 2 paragraphs of the article in the original post:

Stone also wants to remind hunters that there are two ways to enter their harvests through Game Check. The easiest by far is to download the Outdoor AL smartphone app. The other is to go to outdooralabama.com and click on “Game Check.” For those who don’t have internet access, WFF has self-service kiosks at all district offices.

“The 1-800 number is no longer in effect,” Stone said. “You can go to the website or the best way is to use the Outdoor AL app on your phone. It only takes a few seconds to plug in that information and you’re done.”

I wonder how many hunters have stopped hunting because of all the new regulations in the last 5 to 8 years?
