My boy is wanting what hes calling a "singing baitcaster". I reckon it humms or something when you cast it. Who makes these? He said something once about a shimano. Anybody have any info on this?

Problem solved. 😜

In my experience....they aint spose to do that...may be somethin new. Now....drag on big spinnin reels will sing....what a sound...when a 40lb king mackeral hits an LY at mach 5 an leaves nuthin but a cloudy bubbly vapor trail in its wake....they sing then...what a glorious racket

My tatula sv tw wines pretty good. Compared to my other reels. Think it’s something to do with the spool and air brake. I know you gotta really wanna do it to over spin it though. I use it to skip jigs under docks

When mine do that the key is to dip them in the water and count to 10. Smooth casting until the singing starts again.

Tighten tension knob located in center next to the handle, not enough tension on the bearings. It will wear them out quicker that way.

I have some of the Shimano Curado DC reels and they “sing”. It’s the brake in the reel which operates much like the anti-lock brakes in your vehicle, the chip reads the speed of the spool something like 100 times per second and what you are hearing is the brake being applied and released very, very rapidly.

Jwalker, as said above, it sounds like your son wants a a digitally controlled reel. If he wants a shimano, then the entry level DC reel is the SLX DC. Its $189.99. After that you step up to the curado dc at $249.99.

Here's the SLX:

A fishing reel with a computer control box. Lord save us. That's just sad.

I watched a youtube video of a guy using a curado dc, thats what hes wanting. I dont know if hes quite at the level of taking care of his stuff yet for me to spend $250 on a reel. Maybe for Christmas or something. He took a pretty expensive speed spool apart yesterday because it was making a little grinding noise, it is a paperweight now. Im in that place where I really want to give him what he wants. Hes a good boy and he works hard. But sometimes it just dont make sense. This is one of them times.

The DC is the most backlashing reel I own. I would get a regular curado and tell him to make the noise with his mouth.

Tell him that the entry level, cheapest baitcaster you can find today is vastly superior to the best baitcaster that money could buy when I started fishing. And yet we still caught fish.

Kids love stories about how much better they have it now than we did. smile
