I'm not opposed to the research, but I'm not in favor of it, either. I really don't need a biology degree to tell me:
1) New born animals, in the wild, will sometimes die.
2) Coyotes are sometimes responsible for those deaths.
3) Lots of other things are also responsible for those deaths, not to exclude the trauma of being abducted by a gang of grad students.
4) Coyotes will gladly make a meal of an animal carcass, regardless of how it died.
5) Urban sprawl is threatening our wildlife far worse than any predator.
6) Fawn mortality is irrelevant, coyotes eat turkey eggs and that's plenty good enough reason to eradicate every last one of them.


Actually...there have been several studies that show that handling of newborn fawns does not negatively impact survival of those fawns if it is done in the proper manner.
