I know the they can sense your trail for at least 24 hours from the time you last visited, or at least they can smell me that long.
I don't think anything you do, even rubber boots, can 100% prevent them from smelling your trail, but taking every precaution you can might help. I know there are lots of products that are supposed to make hunters invisible, but I have spent enough time in the woods with and without them to know they are all crap. Deer are better smellers than the products we think we can come up with.
I read a recent article where they used a german shephard, which is supposed to have a nose similar to that of a whitetail, and they crossed hunter's paths who had walked by several hours earlier. There was absolutely no difference in his ability to pick up a rubber boot vs. leather boot trail. He nailed them every time. :rolleyes:
