I see that they were very careful to avoid title IX complications. You KNOW none of women’s teams make money.

Similar to the Ivy League, no one gives a flip about these sports except for those who participate in them.

However, these decisions give the other ADs and university decision-makers some cover to make cuts and season delays or cancelations. Everyone made fun of the Ivy League in spring when it whacked its basketball tournaments. Then everyone did. Some HBCUs have canceled football and non-conference games are getting whacked.

Just wait ... you'll see more stuff like what Stanford did. And then it will trickle into high schools.

Dallas School Superintendent just said very likely there will be no high school football this season.

Unsure if he means Dallas area or statewide.

Do we see some teams (HS and college) start the season and after losing a few games quit? Blame it on Covid but in reality money not being generated to cover cost?

Possibly. Easy cover for them. They can't release info "because of HIPPA!" as all coaches say, could claim the virus, and unless players say they're lying the school could end it.

I'm wondering more realistically what happens if they play 3-4 weeks and get into October, and then a team has a big spike in infected players. Say, 25 or 30 from starters to scrubs.

What then? Plug holes with backups and keep playing knowing you're coming up on the home stretch of conference games (if you played non-cons)? Or do they have a magic number before the season begins at which point they say "If we hit x-number within a certain span of days, we're shutting it down."

What happens if a team has no issues but the team they're playing has a bunch of cases? Do you load up and travel to Athens or Auburn or College Station and play? Do they reschedule? Cancel?

Once this money train starts rolling, if it does, it'll be hard for them to shut it down. Lot of unknowns. These players are in great shape so that's a plus, but at the same time they're college "kids" who want to hang out, party, visit and won't be chilling in the apartment wearing masks. We've already seen that at Clempsun and LSU.

It's easy to say, "Just play, it's part of life!" but we're talking about something that while admittedly is important to us it's still, honestly, unnecessary in the overall.

I believe the pro leagues and their players unions have some kind of agreement about the injury reports and releasing info, even if it's minimal description.

"ParrotHead89, calf strain, questionable" or something like that.

College coaches hide behind it because the sports media won't question them for fear of losing access. It's a quite complex administrative law that few people want to dissect or try to argue about when Coach McGoober says "Hippa, can't talk."

You'll hear a coach explain that "it's his ankle or knee, we're waiting for more information" after clearly a player twisted his knee into a pretzel and was helped off. Or a guy was knocked out and is in concussion protocol.

The more quiet ones are something that happens in practice and a coach doesn't want to give out info about the OL or DB who could be out of the game against Big State College. So they clam up and say the very least they can and use Hippa.

It's a privacy shield and that's good for the patient. I think coaches sometimes use it as a bludgeon, though. Tricky waters.

With the virus, I think they probably wouldn't want any obfuscation. Be truthful, transparent, everyone's going thorugh these roiling waters right now. But I doubt you'd see names attached to any virus confirmations. Likely would be "We have 7 kids who tested positive" and then everyone would be watching the field playing a guessing game trying to figure out who's not out there.

Maybe most schools should get out of the sports business. Do European Universities have sports teams? As for high school, all the good sports are club teams/travel teams anyway, right?

European universities have sports such as soccer, rugby, rowing, golf and others.
