What would you say the cost per acre is to plant food plots - fertilizer, lime, seed(assume oats/clover, nothing expensive), diesel, fuel, herbicide. Not including your time or tractor time.

You must be planting some really fancy seeds to cost $300 per acre. It costs us about $150 an acre for fall plots

I myself plant about $50 a bag seed on my few plots. It works for what I want.

I had figured $300 also...way more expense than just seed! Was talking to a guy who said he was going to start doing plots for folks around him and was trying to figure out a good per acre price for everything - he said he was thinking around $75. I bit my tongue because I didn’t have my spreadsheet handy.

No fertilizer, no fuel? My fertilizer cost is about double the cost of seed

I bid $200-250.

"Why do you ask"?

I've never calculated the per acre cost. I'm afraid it would be a shock.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

$200-250 acre is about right. I’m normally cheaper on fert then seed though. I usually go 100 pounds per acre then another 100 pounds an before Christmas.

Hayman probably doesn’t want to tell what he spent last year on plots. 😬

300# 13-13-13. $90

100# wheat/oats/rye seed. $30

Roundup $5

Fuel $10

Lime every few years $25

Worst case $150 on average or less.

What are y’all planting that costs $300+ per acre? I must be forgetting something.

lime $60 per ton spread by co-op, I put minimum 1 ton per year, did 2 tons last year
fert - $120+ per acre depending on the mix that soil sample tells me, spread by co-op
seed - $30-50 depending on type of seed
fuel/herb/taxes/samples/misc - $35-40 per acre

Where am I off?

We use about 100 lb per acre seed and 200 lb trip 13. A couple of our members are pushing to go to 400 lb seed/acre which I thought was crazy until I saw their plots and they put the club plots to shame.
