Down. Mayor Stimpson removed it last night and opted to pay the 25K fine.

The statue was vandalized earlier this week.

Mitchell Bond, 20, of Mobile was charged with defacing a monument, which is a Class A misdemeanor, after messages were spray painted on the base of the statue. The city removed those painted messages Tuesday.

Semmes was an officer in the Confederate navy. He commanded the CSS Alabama.

FOX10 News is reaching out to officials for information about the removal of the statue.

The removal of the statue follows days of protests in Alabama and across the nation over killings by police of African Americans.

Around the country, other monuments to the Confederacy and Civil War figures have been removed in recent times, including this week a monument in Birmingham's Linn Park.

On Sunday in Birmingham, prior to that monument's removal, hundreds of people gathered in Linn Park, chanting and listening to speakers decrying police brutality. Some in the crowd toppled a bronze statue of city industrialist Charles Linn, who served in the Confederate Navy, but they were unable to budge the huge stone obelisk of the large Confederate monument. They battered it instead with stones and hammers, the Associated Press reported, and city leaders subsequently ordered its removal.

The statue was vandalized earlier this week by a 20 year old white pussie.

"On June 4, 2020, I ordered that the statue of Admiral Raphael Semmes be moved from its location at the intersection of Government and Royal streets in downtown Mobile.

The task was completed this morning, June 5. The statue has been placed in a secure location.

To be clear: This decision is not about Raphael Semmes, it is not about a monument and it is not an attempt to rewrite history.

Moving this statue will not change the past. It is about removing a potential distraction so we may focus clearly on the future of our city. That conversation, and the mission to create One Mobile, continues today."



I very much oppose this and will tell him just that at my earliest opportunity...

Are they going to rename Semmes or leave the town name and documents as is?

I wouldn't be surprised that the majority of folks that live in Semmes, that didn't know who the town was named after and are now offended will want the government to pay them for living there. Or pay for them to move.

Oh you've got to be kidding me.

So we went from covid to police killing blacks to Confederate monuments in less than 2 weeks this is ridiculous

WE all must understand how they work. They will never let a crisis go to waste. Never. Why? Because the environment is ripe for attention and change. Why put off til tomorrow what can be done well today since all eyes are on the nation? This is their strategic mentality.

The Floyd death sparked outrage over police misconduct against minorities. So since this was seen as purely racially motivated, then all things racial are fair game to them. Protests all over the country were planned to get something they have been wanting for a long time....removal of symbols they declare as divisive and racially charged.
So we have monuments coming down all over...some with chains and brick hammers by protesters....some by Progressive proactive city leaders....some by politically correct scared normally conservative white leaders.
Why let a manufactured crisis stay in MN? Make hay while the sun is shining....ie, the medial is all over this and monuments coming down push the narrative further.
They gained many steps forward just by taking to the streets and demanding outcomes.

From my perspective, they aren't capable of seeing history and a record of the past--whether that past was good, bad, right or wrong. They only see it as approval and celebration of the past...so they desire to have an issue with anything that may have a degree of a dark past....whether that's true or not. This is because they have been indoctrinated with Progressive ideals and hatred. The hate today resides much more in the minority side toward the white majority than the other way around. Sure there are ignorant white racists that still feel blacks are sub-human as a race....but that is very much a small percentage of white people. The percentage of minorities that think in racist ways far exceeds that. I will admit far more of the white majority hold the pervasive criminal and entitlement sucking black culture in contempt more than being directed to individuals in those communities.

We aint done yet..........got to get the guns

My prediction/prophecy...that is when Armageddon starts. When they try that.

Now saying it's only "temporary" yeah right, they're just going to move it somewheres else

Mark it down there will be a bloodbath at my house if they try that...and I better be laying dead by my guns before I ever kneel to anyone or anything on this earth unless Jesus our Lord and savior comes to my door
