Has anyone on here had all of their health clearances done on Labs before breeding? If so what all did you have done and about how much money did you have in it? I've read a lot on it but my vet doesn't really push to have it done

I have had hips, elbows, eyes, and EIC done on all of mine before I bred them. Depending on where you get it done it’s around $500 for hips, elbows, and eyes. EIC runs less than a $100 and you do the swab yourself and send it in. I personally would never breed a dog that hadn’t had them done nor would I buy a pup whose parents hadn’t been tested. You are just asking for trouble down the road if you do. No testing is why backyard breeders pups are cheap.

When i had labs i did hip, elbow and eyes. Now with my shepherds i do hip, elbow and DM. I use the SV registry(at 1 year of age and only gsd) in Germany and OFA(at 2-3 yr of age). Actually got an appointment tomorrow for my male to have pics taken for OFA(2.5 yrs old finals)I run through both organizations due to possible overseas transactions whether sale, breeding or future importing.. Plus I'm able to see any issues in joints/bone set at 1yr of age though the SV. This gives me a year up on the OFA score and lets me know if i want to keep going with that particular canine and the work/training we put them through or spade/neuter and find a good home for. You can also have prelims made through the OFA before the final eval. I think that's around 15 months old.

Thanks for all the help. I will definitely have mine checked before breeding. I was leaning towards that anyways, just like to get other opinions on it because i was raised around a farm but we always just had dogs and puppies that we just fed and wormed a couple times a year and that was it lol. So I'm kind if new to this and wanted to do it right
