No, it's not unusual at all to see scrapes this time of the year, but it's not the same type of scrape that you'll see over into the rut.
Basically, this time of the year the bucks are marking their territory, letting other bucks know who the dominat buck is. They will not be coming by checking their scrapes to see if a doe had came by , because it's not the right time of the year for the does to come in estrous. (Although a buck will mate any time of the year)
You'd be better off hunting food sources or travel routes.
