Corn mixed with shelled peanuts, mainly to hold them in our area. They will walk across corn and everything else once they eat peanuts.

Something that would have to be a significant factor in someone's potential for seeing a substantial impact would be the degree to which inadequate nutrition is a limiting factor for them when they start something like this. Take Stickers for example.....he's in an area with good soil and plenty of quality native understory vegetation. The deer on his club don't have a massive nutritional void to fill. I would think that his potential for seeing a substantial impact is pretty low even if he does feed for years. Compare that to someone else who may be in some really poor habitat without much quality vegetation....I would think they would have a lot better chance of seeing tangible results from years of feeding. From what I've seen....unless you've got some really deep pockets and are willing to commit to shelling out a lot of money to feed deer across a pretty good swath of land....then just forget about growing big bucks with feeders and pellets. Its only realistic in certain situations.

Every year we start with corn and soybeans mixed together 50/50. By the 3rd feed it’s straight soybeans. And if we start to run low by September we will buy protein pellets to mix with the beans to last till bowseason. We run 13 feeders and feed every other week. Our deer density is high, the feeders are empty each time we feed. And we have all trough style feeders. Since you started doing that have you noticed any year to year increase in antler size and development of your buck population?

Since you started doing that have you noticed any year to year increase in antler size and development of your buck population? We have seen an increase in body size. And I think we have seen a somewhat increase horn wise. Not a 20” difference in each buck (but is there really a way to scale what a buck would have been?), deer seem to have longer tines or more mass. We killed 3 bucks this year over 200lbs (I killed a 8pt that weighed 215) in Baldwin county. And few that were sure nuff good bucks horn wise. Our average doe size has went from 80ish lbs to mid 90’s, and killed a hand full this past year that weighed 105-115lbs. I think it helps. But that’s just my 2 cents. I could show some pictures of deer from our property that you would never think come from our area... no not booners to say, but just great bucks that would be shot anywhere in this state.
