I thought stand your ground only applied to your home or business. They are really grasping at straws to claim that. Am I wrong about it being home and business ? Face it he was killed for being black, nothing more. i haven't seen many thugs out jogging.

Even if SYG applied in public, it ain't standing your ground when you actively hunt the guy down, stop him, then shoot him

Stand your ground can apply in public. But, you have to be in fear for your life and be able to give a legitimate reason why. Like, the guy had a gun and was coming at you.

I agree, thugs are not known to be joggers.

The jogger was the one who had a right to stand his ground.
From being attacked by two total redneck murderers.
Hope the two men who murdered the jogger get the death penalty.

You decide you need to lose some weigh so you take up jogging. One day while making a lap, 2 black guys (or Mexicans, pick a minority) block the road in front of you with their truck and hop out with guns. You have another vehicle running up behind you at the same time. You gonna stand there and take whatever, or are you going down fighting?

We see on here constantly that you should never point a gun at something (or someone) you don't intend to kill. Fat boy drew down on this young man. He interprets that (correctly) as "this SOB aims to kill me." He chose fight over flight. I imagine in the moment, many of us would've responded the same way.

To attempt to find excuses for these 2 guys is to try to justify killing a black guy simply because he is black. There has been no evidence provided to support any other position.

True, but I can't think of an instance that makes it OK or self defense. The prosecution blew this and now they had better get a Grand Jury seated tomorrow. That is the only way this can be mitigated hopefully. Failure to do so will just bring on more protest that from the outside looking in certainly seem justifiable.

There also has been no evidence that they killed him because he was black. That may turn out to be the case but to declare that outright is dangerous at best. Looking at this and not taking into account skin color is a more honest way of getting to the truth. Preconceived notions often obscure the truth. The only certainty in the moments we see is that this man was accosted by these other men and they killed him. THAT has to be dealt with and should have been immediately.

The only self defense would have been if the jogger had produced a gun and killed the two idiots with guns who chased him down in their truck.

I wonder if it would have taken two months to bring charges against him if this had happened. I doubt it...

While he may have not been killed solely because he was black his skin color definitely played a role imo on how it all played out.

Because that is what people have been trained to think.

I do agree that the race card is played all too often without justification......but in this specific case I see it as racially influenced/motivated.

Exactly.....this is a classic example of "the boy who cried wolf" finally seeing an actual wolf and some folks not believing him, or at least being skeptical.

Might be, might not be. What is certain however is that there is no excuse for charges not being filed against the guys that killed this man. Or for this much time passing and nothing be done.

Still there is not an explanation as to why they did not call the police about somebody they "thought" was suspicious in their neighborhood first. If there have been burglaries in my neighborhood and I see somebody suspicious I call the cops.
