I will tell you this, my employer called me last week and said we were going to start up the factory at 40% production. He then asked if I was available to work...I said yes, if you can promise me 32 hours a week. Of course they said it can't be promised...they gave me the option to stay furloughed for now. And yes, I'm going to stay home on unemployment. I would be stupid to go back to work and make less than I normally do, when I can stay home and bring home 875 a week. BUT, I normally bring home about a grand a week, so I dont feel bad about it cause I'm making less with unemployment. Of course I'm going back to work when they call me back to full time hours.
To GOD be All the glory!!!

It's all going as planned.
The economy has lost trillions, the federal government has expanded, more people are loving their federal bennies and don't want to go back to work, the food supply chain is getting disrupted, Joe Biden hasn't had to leave his house in 6 weeks.
Gosh, the dems couldn't of scripted it better.

Send each one a letter with the expected start date. 3rd no show no call, they quit. No unemployment for quitting then send a certified letter to the state explaining the events. Send each one a signature required certified letter. That way you can verify receipt. Be very clear that you have work available for them, indicate the date they are expected to return and what will happen if they do not report for work. Further, explain that if they fail to return to work it will be considered a voluntary termination. This will be helpful for you to have documentation when the state wants to know what steps you took to communicate the Who, what, when, where and why they were terminated.

Abou the unemployment, is everybody eligible for the extra federal money. I mean if they normally bring home $400/week, do they get $850/week unemployment? I assumed the big increase would be for people making higher wages, since there are alot of those out of work right now.

Regardless if your previous salary was $50 or $1500 you still get the extra $600 per week. Pretty easy to figure out why nobody wants to go back to work.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

My wife is on a board. They had a meeting the other day about the same thing. Sounds like they may have to do a total overhaul because none of the people want to come back to work. They went from making probably 300 a week or less to, what nearly 900 or so? These are young college aged kids. I’m guessing if they are offered to come back to work but refuse to, that it cancels any kind of unemployment benefits? Do the dumb ass people really think they are gonna get to live the high roller lifestyle forever. Like said above if my workers didn’t want to show up I’d be cleaning house so hopefully the sorry sobs would starve to death and loose everything they had from being stupid.

A lot of folks are going to get a good lesson as to why government solutions to problems aren’t necessarily a good thing. First they forced the employers to lay off or furlough because they shuttered their businesses. Then they proceed to “help” the employee by giving large unemployment “benefits”. Which in turn means said employee is incentivized not to go back to work, thus creating a labor shortage for the employer when they reopen. The labor shortage creates holes in the supply chain, and the employer is facing an uphill battle to stay in the black. Just absolutely brilliant work by our politicians.
I wonder how many folks realize that they will lose their benefits when their employer cranks back up? I hope that this little bit of info will be passed along when places start opening up again.

It's been stated several times. IF YOU CALL THEM BACK AND THEY REFUSE, THEY LOSE THE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT. They accepted those terms of the care act when they accepted the 1st $600 stipend.

Thats good. If any man who hadnt worked in six weeks but had been getting paid twice as much to go fishing and turkey hunting got called back to work, it would be hard to get up and drive to work that first day back. If it were any of yall in that situation, you have to admit it would be hard to go back to working for half the money.

And I don’t believe you will be able to fight it and win if they don’t come back. The only way I see it stopping is if the feds come out and announce an all clear statement. And I don’t see that happening anytime soon. It’s just part of being an employer unfortunately that is going to get the short end of the stick. And honestly I can’t fault a person for not wanting to give up a 100 percent increase in income. But at the same time when it plays out and they come looking for a job I’d say screw them.

If you have a job for them to do, tell them and they refuse to come back they have quit their job. As many others have said, they don’t get to keep collecting unemployment at that point. The law is very clear on that point.

To be eligible to collect, a worker must be “willing and able” to work. Make them a written offer of re-employment with a firm cutoff date to respond. If they decline the offer or don’t respond, contest their eligibility with the state. Document EVERYTHING. This is important because your corporate Unemployment tax rate is experience based. Every disputed claim you win lowers your tax rate FOR YEARS TO COME. Winning just a couple of contested claims will save you thousands of dollars.

Call them back to work, if they do not respond, contest the unemployment. Honestly, its that simple.

Maybe you should pay more. This is the reason Alabama is in the bottom 10 in average median. Not much above poverty level.
