I have a lab puppy that is 8 months old. She is in the chewing phase. Any tips to keep her from chewing up stuff like the deck, back door facing, rocks, roots, landscape timbers, doghouse?

Only thing that worked for our lab was exercise. Days we took her out for a jog twice a day she didn't chew near as much. We tried everything we could such as bitter spray and Tabasco and she acted grateful to us for giving her extra flavor to chew on. Then we started a pretty strict exercise regimen and she did much better. Of course they still chew, so there is no 100% cure...

Get her a playmate and lots of exercise. That will help some but chewing and labs go hand in hand.

Crate train.

Put some green tree limbs in the yard. keep fresh ones out there hopefully she will chew on them and not the house. it worked for me.

I agree with exercise although my issue was/is with digging small holes. My lab puppy just turned a year old and if I walk her about 25min in the evenings then she will not dig but if I don't walk her she is a threat to dig a small hole somewhere in the yard. Lately with the rainy days/evenings I have skipped a few walks and currently have two softball sized holes dug in my yard. More/extra exercise doesn't seem to have a carry over effect. I hunted her Friday and stayed the farm Fri, Sat and Sun with her constantly playing with other dogs and running quite a bit alongside the ranger but come Monday I didn't walk her because I was busy and she created one of those holes Monday evening.

Crate train. And I have noticed that if you teach them something that they have to use their mind for. Somethinf as simple as obedience, you can really wear them down just going through commands. I can spend the 15 or 20 minutes with mine making them pay attention and think and it seems to make a big difference

Mine would run miles and chew stone off the fireplace. You gotta get through it. It'll get better.

I feel your pain. My black lab is now a little over 2. He has gotten a lot better but he will still chew something up like a toy the kids left out or something like that every now and then. Until he was 1 1/2. He was hell on legs. Anything was game. He did this in a day

Mine chewed a hole in my wood floor in my living room. No idea HOW he got that started.

Mine chewed straight through the middle of a wall. Came about 2 inches away from an Electric Junction. Not sure which would have been better for her, finding that box and ending it or the wrath my wife unleashed when she found her laying on our bed and then saw what she had done to the laundry room. They're impressive to say the least.

After to hearing all these stories and others makes me thankful we trained both our labs early. Honestly have never had these issues with either of our labs. 1st lived almost 12 years and the new one is just a little over a year old. She will not chew on anything that is not “her” toy. We do keep her busy and active but even on the days she’s not she still doesn’t chew. Proper training was the key for us. Bless you guys. Invest in a good training collar and use it.

A lab is going to chew, especially when they are left alone and get bored. The best thing that helped with me was to get on to them when chewing something that they shouldn't and replace it with something that's ok to chew on. Over time they will get the idea. I never left mine alone and unattended in the house as a young pup til i knew I could trust them. Mine pups have all stayed in a crate or pen when I was to busy to keep an eye on them. I would also say that basic obedience traing would probably help as well, because you got a lab because you want to enjoy their company and its a lot easier to do so when they aren't running wild lol. We got a lab mix pup that’s about 8 months old now. She has chewed spots on an expensive rug her crate was sitting on, Will destroy a baseball or softball in about ten mins. Brings rocks up on the porch and any other thing that she finds. We had her fixed about a month ago thought that might slow her down but not a bit so far

You have to give them things they can chew on, and reinforce what is and isn’t a chew toy. I have two labs, and they both chew, but only on their toys.

Get him a bowling ball. They love it. He will try and pick it up and move it all over the place. Great for exercise too.

Give them deer antlers to chew on. THose things last for months. My dog loves them

We have a Choc. Lab. prolly 10 yrs. old. Been Dumb as a box of hammers since we got him.
And paranoid as a crackhead.
