I have been struggling to find a decent boot. I've had Columbia's, timberlands, ascends and most recently keen boots and it only took 2 weeks for the sole to start separating on them... id like to get something i could get a couple years out of . what have yall had that will last and that is comfortable? Thanks

Years ago I would have said Timberland. Don't buy their Chinese chit now. And be careful with Danner since only some of their products are Made in USA.

I have some Keen Targhee 3's that have some MILES on em. They been Bear hunting in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness in Montana
and done the "M Trail" in Bozeman. Also took them Javelina hunting in SW New Mexico. No signs of wear.

You say Hiking and you say Work. Those are two totally different activities that in all reality require two different kinds of boots. For a hiking boot I would want something light and super comfortable with good traction. For work I would want something that is still comfortable, but also very durable and something that you could stay on you feet all day in. For reference I own pairs of: Carolina Red Wing Thourogood Eastland Keen I have had a pair of Carolina Broad Toe Wedge boots and they have been the most comfortable and durable work boots I have ever owned. If you want a durable, light comfortable boot that is not steel toe, I would look at crispi boots. Black Ovis and Camofire run sales often on this line of boots. I have a pair I bought to turkey hunt in and absolutely love them. Best money I have spent in on a pair of boots.

I have the Danner Vicious with a composite work toe. Let me tell you, there is such a thing as a hiking and work boot combo. I’ve probably put 75+ miles on them since Feb. between scouting and hunting turkeys. There was zero break in period and the toe room is unreal. They have Vibram soles and Gore-Tex lined. The Gore-Tex is hot but that’s what I wanted so I knew what I was getting into. I’ve only had them since Jan. So we shall see how long they last, but I am majorly impressed so far

I can't do a work/outdoor boot without a heel. I never have been able to wear any wedge sole boot day in/ day out on a variety of surfaces including concrete... they hurt my feet. I would suspect this is why a lot of people can't find work boots that don't hurt their feet. Depending on safety requirements at a job site.
A linemans or logger boots are maybe heavier but the weight has never bothered me. My feet don't hurt and that is all that matters. I can't tell you how many people I come into contact with daily, weekly, monthly, yearly that tell me their feet hurt and they tried this insole or that and how they finally found the perfect pair until they got discontinued. 90% of them are wearing a wedge sole boot of some type. A lot of those people I ask if they ever considered wearing a boot with a heel. A lot of them that give it a shot figure out.... their feet quit hurting.
Beyond your feet themselves..... The only thing about a raised heel is if you squat a lot to work your hip hinge tends to put your center of gravity forward. In that case you will have to go with a shorter heel if you are experiencing any discomfort. However the opposite holds true if you experience back or knee pain and are not squatting a lot during the day then a raised heel might correct it.
Hiking boots are radically different.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

I got some Danner Mountain 600's from Marks Outdoors. I don't hike, but they're very comfortable boots with good support and traction.

If you want a hiking boot to use for work, then go with European made like Scarpa.

ive tried many and have come to find the Irish Setter wingshooter is one of the most comfortable and longest lasting. I get the composite 6" wedge sole because its been flawless so far. when they get old I put a fancy insole in them. there pretty thick leather so wear them to church for a year first. maybe ill try some of the american thoregoods again one day, but the cheap pair i bought once went straight into the garbage, of course they were the st shoes. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1018359577

I bought a pair of Merrell hikers I’ve had a few years. I love ‘em. They’re my year-round boots. I deer hunt, turkey hunt and woods walk in em. I don’t wear em every day but I could.
I told the salesman at Bass Pro that comfort and minimal break in were part of my requirement. He said a lot of finish carpenters who are on their feet all day wear these. May have just been sales talk but they are comfortable.
