saw my first hummingbirds this morning. 5 to be exact. My problem is that my purple Martin house has been up around a month and still no residents.is it too late ? Is there any way to attract them (Martins) ? Thanks
I've had martins since the first of March all 68 of my apartments are full, I've had a few hummers since the middle of March, I never have many hummers until after they nest, so around the first of June I fed a 135# Sugar last year and 119 # year before, I also have the perfect condition for hummers which is a lot of hardwoods and a rather large creek , they love both.
It’s pretty late in your area to get Martins but it’s not impossible. You’d probably be better off getting nesting Martins if you’d put up gourds instead of a house

Hummingbirds are more attracted to red flowers than any other colors. Using colors to encourage or discourage different animals is effective. The sweetness of the homemade nectar affects which animals it will attract. I discovered that as long as only add 1 cup of sugar to 4 cups of water, it attracts hummingbirds. This is my starting recipe.
Been seeing a few but I don't have any feeders out. Neighbor has several feeders and is covered up with birds
Good to see you back perch
