This is what my old neighbor told me. He called it a “sucker” and told me to throw them in the long grass. So that’s what I did but my fish retriever kept finding it and bringing it back to me. I made sure it was good and dead and threw it in the pond.
It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chews your a$$ all day long.

Wild golden shiner or river roach. Great big bass bait. Easy to catch with a tiny #12 hook and a piece of worm no more than 1/8 of an inch long suspended under a cork about a foot deep.

Back in the 70's we caught a lot of Florida bass on golden shiners. We would chum the shiners up with oatmeal, then throw a cast net over them. On the St. Johns river we would get above deep holes and freeline them downstream.
