Old ones from well known makers sometimes sell for as much as $10 per pound in good condition. Ones that look like hammered dog crap generally go in the $3-5 range. I want one for the farm, but have not found a decent one in my budget yet.

This. The electrical inspector who inspected my shop told me about Collinsville trade day

My wife and I went on the World's Longest Yard Sale route and seen plenty of anvils but they were way more than I could afford. The cheapest I saw was $200 for a 50LB. anvil. Granted they were all antiques which means good iron, none of that cheap Chinese crap. I think I'll make one out of a railroad rail.

A few years back I was at the biltmore house and they had a blacksmith demonstration going on......they guy was really good and I could have sworn he said that there were going to be no new anvils built? There were only a couple of people who made them new and they were out of business.....sounded strange but he said something to that effect I believe.

My grandfather had one. My dad dragged it out of a hedgerow and brought to the house once. My uncle pitched a fit because my dad had it so he gave it back. There's no telling where it ended up.

There's a ton of them on Flea Bay. I've been looking there for a heavy vise for awhile, and they always come up. You might get lucky and find one close to you to pick up instead of shipping it.
