Kay Ivey issues new emergency order and announces: Alabama public school students will be taught at home online beginning April 6 and for the rest of the year.
It is school year; headline was not specific

It won’t work. At least not very well. There are a whole lot of poor areas that don’t have access to computers, don’t have broadband offered in the area, etc...

The system my wife teaches for is considering making the teachers go back for the rest of the year though without students. I guess they figure online teaching is easier in an empty classroom. The biggest problem so far is getting parents to call her back so she can explain to them how to get the online lessons. This just really shows how little some parents care about their child's education. She's left repeated messages with some explaining why they need to call her and they don't or if they do call back they have an attitude because she bothered them.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Great. What in the hell are working parents supposed to do now? Yeah...that's gonna suck hard. We're fortunate in that both I and MrsGomer can work from home when needed, but we're the exception, not the rule.

My wife was told by her employer she can take 12 weeks off to homeschool with 2/3 of her pay,we will have to see what kind of online stuff they’ll have to do before she makes a decision on taking off or not

How stupid to call it this early. They have already caused shear panic and terror with the virus and now this. Do y’all realize how many kids will fall behind? She just made a difficult situation even worse 😡. I have NO IDEA as to what to do with my kids. My wife is in healthcare and I’m in sales/small business owner. Kids most definitely can’t go to work with either of us.

Boneheaded move. Should have waited a couple more weeks. Not enough data

Will be interesting to see how this plays into it. A lot more people can take a set of rabbit ears or an antenna and pick up apt in areas without internet

I have had multiple teachers tell me that, as far as the curriculum and issues of "falling behind" are concerned, that by spring break, they've pretty much already learned most of the stuff they're going to learn for the year, due to the timing of state testing and such. Would you consider this accurate or no?

My wife is a kindergarten teacher and she says that she is t sure how it will work with kids that age. Her system is also one without great broadband coverage for her students. We are lucky to live in one of the few systems that already has e school days on a regular basis so, they have a system in place. But, high school courses math and science courses can be hard to do on line. This is going to be a cluster.
For the families With younger kids and two working parents I don’t see how this will work.

Aint going to work in Crenshaw County. I just told my oldest son, I will open up our wifi to the public so kids can come sit in our yard to do school work. I got the biggest signal in the county. But I aint providing lunches or bathrooms, they will have to use the ditch.
