Bama1971 they are already talking about next year and the year after next it coming back. Thats what one of the presidents "experts" was saying in yesterdays press confrence. When they first started talking about their plan for the two week social distancing, they were talking about stretching this thing out longer so the peak number would stay lower. They are not planning on this thing being over quick. The only person who has any hope of it being over quick is the president. He said he hoped wed be back going by easter, but his "experts" did not sound nearly as hopeful. All of that is if we do follow their plan.

If something doesn't give and give quick, I'm guessing more than half the small businesses will be bankrupt within a month. We're doing okay, but I went to town tonight to get supper at 6:30 pm. The largest restaurant in town had TWO cars in the pick up area. Highway 431 looked like a ghost town.

How do we start back? If it ends tomorrow, how long before small business is back to the level they where at? I just see it as being bad for a long time.

I don't disagree. Years I suspect. Unemployment is going to skyrocket.

I don't think so. They are going to play this for all its worth and no matter what is decided by this president they are going to call it wrong. The sad part is they are going to have a bunch of otherwise conservative voters buy into it because they are more interested in staying alive than they are of really living. Unfortunately, a significant portion of the population is highly emotional and illogical and will believe anything as long as it aligns with their fears.

Yesterday morning they said unemployment was 30%. I think thats what got Trumps attention.

I don't know if it's accurate but I saw a statistic today that said 30% are unemployed, at this moment. Some will get their jobs back when it's over but I know of a few local businesses that already said they wouldn't be reopening. That means they were likely in trouble, anyway, but I know several that operate all week just to make payroll on Friday. Every week that goes by is going to make it worse and the recovery longer.

Restaurant and bar owners are probably taking the biggest hit so far.
I know of at least three locally that are not likely to recover.

Well, when you shut down all the dining rooms of restaurants (some of which just offered carry out until their inventory was gone and then closed, closed all the bars, essentially banned all non-emergency dental and medical procedures and closed a ton of other retail there just is not a lot of reason to be out and about on the roads.

Down here there are still people getting together socializing at homes (albeit in smaller numbers of people) and going out on boats, etc. I have definitely seen pictures that show people not keeping the 6' apart, which I understand you cannot do with small children, but lots of them are old enough to understand the request.
