Are the timing chains suppose to be changed every so often?

You are correct on the 5.7s. Not recommended to replace until overhaul of the engine.
I was thinking of the 2006 Tundra I had with a 4.7 engine.
It was replaced with water pump at 100,000 +/- miles.
