Looking at trading for a 2007 tundra crewmax with 205k miles. Any common issues on these I should watch out for?

The MPGs are horrible, as you mentioned. But the 5.7L is no worse than the 4.7L. So you might as well get more power.

Research, that first iteration of 5.7 iforce v8 had some kid of recall on maybe the heads i think..or something like that. It was a factory flaw and only effected the earliest 07 engines. After that they are basically indestructible. One of the finest engines on the road with the worst fuel mileage. Very fine trucks with enough power to pull a space shuttle😁

I had an 07 consistently got 15mpg. Lost overdrive on the transmission at 348,000. However, how long any piece of equipment lasts is largely dependent on the user. Id check for maintenance records.

I’ve owned a. 10, 12, and driving a 16 now. The 16 has 120 the 12 I gave to mine son it’s at 260. The 10 was totaled at 160. Never done anything mechanical to any. We put new front rotors on and pads on the 12 about 2 months ago. That’s the only thing mechanical that’s I’ve done out of the 3. Only other issue was the 12 and 16 I had to replace what they call a bulb socket that the headlight bulb goes into at about 12 dollars apiece. Everyone of the lot has averaged around 12 to 13 mpg. If I didn’t have a company gas card I would go another route. Plenty of road and pulling power. And the riding comfort is so much better than the Z71 they replaced.

i like what i am hearing. I do not drive far to work (5-6 miles) and could really use a good hauler for my tractor and other toys.

I have an 2008 5.7 with 244,??? miles. Nothing other than routine maintenance
Check and see if water pump has been changed and the timing chain.
Most of the 2007/2008 4x4 Tundras are $10,000 and less from what I remember from looking lately.

I bought a 2011 5.7 4x4 in 2018 and love it. I don’t drive it to work though. I get 13 mpg...
My boss has an 07 and loves his.

There were no real problems with the 5.7. The aluminum block had a different sound that some labeled piston slap but it wasn’t.

Are the timing chains suppose to be changed every so often? Oops! You are correct on the 5.7s. Not recommended to replace until overhaul of the engine. I was thinking of the 2006 Tundra I had with a 4.7 engine. It was replaced with water pump at 100,000 +/- miles. God Bless, David B.
