I'm guessing they were in panic mode when they realized what was gonna happen, probably trying to get the motor started, which at that point would be their only chance of getting out of the situation. Or they could have just froze up when the reality of the situation hit. Praying for the family of these guys and maybe there will be a miracle, or at least some closure. As far as why they were reported missing so late, there are probably several possible ways this could happen. My wife said if the dad was a single father with weekend/joint custody and the friend was staying for the weekend it could easily get to Sunday night before they were reported missing.
