Pickwick must be some kind of dangerous. Didn’t a high school team swamp a boat there a year or so back?
I’ve never considered it too dangerous on the main channel...but I guess it could be if you’ve never been on it before. It is at flood stage. I would have assumed the tourney would have been cancelled.

I would have assumed the tourney would have been cancelled. Me and a couple of buddies camped there the summer after we graduated highschool.....we rented a pontoon boat one day and took off. Storm came up while we were out and it got rough....we had waves breaking over the front of the pontoon boat the entire way back. In hindsight, we were very lucky to get back.

If the boat was under power, we would think they had their PFD's on. During this time of the year hypothermia is a major danger tho. Sadly this won't end well. During flood conditions no body of water is safe with all the trash coming down stream.

The dam SHOULD have security cameras. You would think it would be possible to go back and review footage to see if they were in the boat when it went through the spillway

Damn if I wouldn’t have abandoned the boat long before that.

Damn if I wouldn’t have abandoned the boat long before that. Hell, I would have been on the phone calling the lock master or somebody

Just saw this on Facebook... don’t know if it’s true or not
Video Surveillance shows the boat going over the dam around 8:30 am and the boys and boat captain were still in the boat. No words!!

I would think getting as far away from a boat as possible would give the best odds of survival. Though probably still low. Is there not any barriers or bueys near the spillway/dam at Pickwick?
