I just wanted to give everyone that has been following and praying for us an update. The last 8 months have been a living nightmare for us. The two defendants accused of killing Tim have been charged with 3 counts of capital murder. They are also charged with assault and attempted murder in a separate case that occurred 3 weeks before they murdered Tim. The last two hearings were especially difficult not knowing what the outcome would be. These were the hearings on their motions filed for youthful offender and bail. This last hearing Thursday was by far the most stressful and I truly don't know how I didn't snap and try to kill Powell. These are closed hearings that only the defendants and their lawyers, the prosecution, the judge, the investigator and the victim's family are allowed. They took us into a small room and poor planning on the court's part put me seated within arms reach of Powell. When he started laughing as they read him the indictment I was trembling with rage. I wanted to rip his head off and by the look on the court reporters face I think she thought I was fixing to try. I am thankful to report that both have been denied and they will be tried as adults. They have both plead not guilty by reason of mental disease or mental defect. The prosecutor told us that it would probably be a year and a half before it gets to trial and that they are seeking the death penalty on the 18 year old Mendenhall and life without parole for 17 year old Powell. We are extremely grateful for all of your prayers and hope that you'll continue to pray for us. Without God on our side we couldn't have made it this far. I ask that you pray that all that are involved in this crime, that their hearts will be so burden that they tell the truth and face their punishment. I ask this because I know that they are not the only two involved.

This whole family is more evil than you could imagine. It is my understanding that relatives of these two are responsible for the murder of Shane Manley, the hunter who was shot out of his treestand by trespassers. Tim was murdered less than 5 miles from where Shane was murdered. Another relative has been charged with the death and disappearance of another young black man, Hyshaun Curry. Curry's father came up to me after court Thursday to tell me that he was praying for us. I thank God that they weren't able to hide Tim's body from us. I can't imagine what he's going through by not being able to find his son's body. The Curry family could definitely use some prayers also.

Thank goodness they didn’t accept the youthful offender plea. I hope they both get maximum sentences for what they’ve done. You’re a strong man by keeping your cool and not doing anything in the courtroom. Continued prayers for you and your family and the Curry family as well.

Continued prayers for you and the other families. These prayers include asking The Lord to give you superhuman emotional strength in this ordeal. Prayers of wisdom for Mike Jackson and his staff in the quest for earthly justice. We know that the real justice will come later at the Great Throne of Judgement.

Them seeking the insanity defense is actually a good thing. While not technically an admission, they are in effect admitting to the criminal act and trying to justify it with insanity. It rarely works because juries have a hard time getting beyond the fact that the person on trial committed the crime.
All I can offer you are continued prayers and any assistance you might need from someone in the area who knows many of the actors and the system you are now involved in. There will be times you question the DAs commitment, but I’ve known Mike for years and whatever he may lack, it is not a strong desire for justice..

This case really gets me riled up. What was it, just random shot a kid on a bike or was some other issue?

We are not sure why they did this. I believe that they saw him getting gas and followed him and then murdered him for what little money was in his wallet and then bought drugs with it. The investigator would make a great politician because he knows very well how to talk in circles without giving out any information. I trust that he knows what he's doing just from my short interactions with him. I know it is Wilcox county but this judge seems to be fair but he also doesn't put up with any sh#t. He seems to have a real problem with people violating their bonds which these two did. They were both out on $50,000 bond for attempted murder of one of thems stepfather. This incident happened 3 weeks before they murdered Tim.
