The roads are in terrible shape but all the County Commissioners wait until right before an election to have them paved and many of the voters only see the nice newly paved road when they vote. Well, all the commissioners are in a full out panic because the election is very soon and the rain is preventing their tickets to win from being punched. They are now in the "I've got it planned to get paved as soon as it dries out". I find it funny. they should have paved them a year or two ago instead of holding on to the money and waiting.

Harvest Select Catfish had better plan on a run on fish here very soon. The politicians are going to have to resort to the old fashioned fish sammich method of buying votes.

No idea how they do it. I just know that little or no paving is done until right before the election then it is done at a furious pace. Not this year though.

My wife's uncle is a commissioner and someone took one of his campaign signs and stuck it in a big pothole and it is all over Facebook. He is not on Facebook so his son and daughter in law are taking up the "as soon as it is dry" mantra for him.

I called in a complaint the other day to a culvert problem. The gal took down my info, location of the issue, sent the foreman to the wrong place and he called me sorta dumbfounded as to why I complained. I turned him 'sprained to him and he said he'd look. That was last week. Nothing has changed at the culvert as of dark thirty today. It would almost be worth it to me to buy a properly sized culvert, rent a backhoe, cut the paved county road and correctly place the new culvert just to get the law called, the county engineer come out and the cussing/fist fight/trip to jail that ensued.

When things eventually dry out the paving and road repair companies are gonna make a killing. The really fun thing is that it is gonna freeze hard this weekend there is a ton of moisture in every crack on the roads. That is just going to make even double or triple the current potholes.

The Town of Grant got a $200k state grant from the new tax money. They’re tickled pink.

That is the point. Dallas Co. gets a portion of some fund dedicated to road, I assume it is from taxes. It is then divided among the Commissioners to fix roads in their district as they see fit. They hold on to until right before the election and then use it to pave. Oops on the rain though

It must be a road commissioner thing. Here in Pickens Co. they will grade part of a dirt road and then just stop. There is a stretch of road that is about a mile and a half long they wont touch for months. Of course this stretch is what leads me to my farm. It got the last commissioner booted and is about to get this one too. They claim it's because no one lives down that part but I pay taxes just like everyone else. This also is not the only road they do like this. It's been going on for probably 8-10 years.

Here they grade but don’t work the ditches. Then the water runs over and washes it away. I hate to say it but the best commissioner we had was a democrat that I didn’t vote for. He passed away with cancer in his second term and the governor appointed a republican to replace him that was a joke. And everyone since then had been the same. Even or current one that I voted for that I believed would be good because of his construction background and work ethic has turned out to be a waist.

Dalls is awful. The difference in the same county road as it leaves Dallas and enters any surrounding county is astonishing.

No it isn't. Leave Dallas in to Chilton and you can't tell the difference.
Our ride gets smoother when we drive in the ditch.

Maybe on that side. Going to Perry, Lowndes, or hell even poor ass Wilcox and the roads improve. I dont make it to Chilton co much.

The road to our farm gets worse when the county tries to patch it. They refuse to pave it, just send out some guys with a utility trailer loaded with asphalt and shovels.

I think they do that to piss us off. We would actually prefer dirt roads over that pothole repair bullschit.
