The road to our farm gets worse when the county tries to patch it. They refuse to pave it, just send out some guys with a utility trailer loaded with asphalt and shovels. Thats anywhere in the "Black belt". Millers Ferry (where more taxes and the most money in Wilcox county resides) has the worst roads in the whole the dang county. I'll give you one guess why...

The dirt roads outside of Selma going towards Orrville are in better shape than the paved roads. But really the more accurate description they're both bad, just different degrees of bad.

I think they do that to piss us off. We would actually prefer dirt roads over that pothole repair bullschit. It was a lot better before they paved it 25 years ago.

The commissioners in Alabama would be money ahead if they would utilize asphalt millings on the dirt roads. Paving is expensive, but the millings application isn't that bad. In Walton county it is hard to find a pure dirt road, all of them are asphalt milling. All it takes is a road grader and a roller packer to fix a low maintenance, good road. You eliminate the bi-weekly grading, cost of machines, labor and in the long run it works well.

Get sun on the roads and spend way less money grading them.

I have to put my truck in 4low to get down selfield road. That one is not bad compared to many other County and City Roads. A few years ago the City bought this fancy pothole fixing machine that real does a nice job. It cuts a square hole around the pothole, fills it with hot asphalt and then stamps it level. If more asphalt was needed it provided it. Under our new administration we have potholes everywhere and the fancy machine sits at the City Shop because they say they don't have money for asphalt. When some private people pooled money to buy asphalt the narrative became that the city doesn't have anyone that knows how to operate it. This is believable since the Mayor laid off all the workers and only kept his fellow church members that were supervisors.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Another thing I will add, the usage of millings puts a hard cap on the dirt roads and greatly decreases the water/mud run off that goes into the streams and creeks,

The only county I see worse than Dallas is Lowndes. The road my dad lived on was paved in the 90s. You now have to swerve all over the road like a drunk to miss the holes. The dirt road we go down hasn't had a grade put on it in 3 months. Trash all over the sides of the roads. I can only take so much of Dallas County.

David your right, my commissioner started working on my road, Got some important people live on it. But to no avail, rain done potholed it back up. I am voting for the other guy.

Here recently in Blount county they were trying to start a new position like a manager over the county commissioners. I don’t think it happened it was basically a hired position to do what the commissioners were elected to do. Similar to where they pay a city manager to do the job a mayor is elected to do. Just more wasteful spending
