That sucks, lucky you found her quick. Anything can happen, but it sounds highly likely there will be a good outcome. The last 2 dogs I had to get run over were black dogs, guess it's harder to see them. I always feel like if they make it through the first night, they're usually gonna make it.
About head injuries, my parents had a chiwawa, and a medium sized dog. The chiwawa kept snapping at the bigger dog until one day he snapped back. The k9 tooth penetrated the skull. The little dog lived for about a year later till he fell of the bed and hit his head. Never would of thought a dog could of survived that but it did.
edit to add little dog had surgery for injury to remove skull fragments from brain.
