Shorter season? Meh. But the North zone doesn't need to be hunting in Feb. The South zone, they have a good argument with data to back up Feb hunting.
For those that haven't been keeping up, per the .minutes from the last CAB meeting our season being extended on the front end sounds like a done deal. The data (what ever that is) has been collected and it's just doing it. That's the info. Form your own opinion.
Do you ever pay ANY attention to the states in the midwest or north or west that have a larger herd of mature deer AND MUCH, MUCH shorter seasons? Another surprise is that they have check systems that most all of the hunters use and their conservation departments actually use that data. Another surprise is that fines for violations are serious enough to get the attention of offenders. See a pattern here vs Alabama?
Because I don't hunt out of state.
1. how long have they had a check system in place, probably longer than 3 years
2. watched north woods law recently, caught a guy shooting robo deer from the road and on posted land fine at end of show $248, don't see that breaking any bank accounts.
3. how long are their seasons and their buck limits.
We can't get mad at the state for hunter non compliance with game check and then not using the data that we the hunters will not provide. Been posters on here saying they will not us game check but the vast majority will report. However a buck limit is a good start and then the season can be as long/short as you want it to be within reason
