This statement in another thread made me think back to a conversation that I had with an old timer years ago about the gradual speeding up up time as you age. His explanation for it was the best I have ever heard. Basically what he said was that when you're young, lets say age 5, the year seems to drag on forever because it makes up a whole 1/5 or 20% of your entire life. But as you get older a single year becomes a smaller and smaller fraction of your time here on earth making it seem as though they are passing by more quickly than before. So that by the time you are 60 a whole year only makes up 1/60th or 1.6% of your time. I'll only be hitting the 30 year mark this year but this is starting to really hit home with me as I watch my year and a half old daughter grow more and more every single day.
