What ballistic app do you use ?
I chronoed my gun then dropped the highest and lowest and averaged the rest .
I then took my scope hieght , muzzle velocity ,elevation , grain weight , humidity and BC and temp and made a drop chart to 500
At 400 yards it shot right at 2” group but it was 8” high from poa
My question is how do you fine tune your dope card ?
Just by shooting and walking it back down .1 mil at a time until it’s where u want it

I use the “shooters” app. It’s pretty spot on. What you have to realize is that the BC that is posted on the bullet likely isn’t right. It’s calculated at a specific velocity so if you over or under your going to be off. If you have your velocity down and a low standard deviation then I would try playing with the BC. It will get pretty dang close.

iStrelok

If you were 8” high at 400 there had to be typo in the inputs some where. The dope chart on the side of the box will get you closer than that.

I've been using Strelok Pro for a few years and have been extremely pleased. I also like to pull it up and just screw with it. Tons of info in the app with all the different reticles, bullets and commercial loads. I've taken a Grendel out to 760 yards with it and killed a Sitka Blacktail at 421 using the app and that rifle. I think it was $10 or $12 and well worth it.

I agree with the above, if you were 8" high at 400, something was off in your inputs. Info produced by the apps will only be as good as the info entered and a simple typo can throw you off quite a bit.

If entered it 10 times and keep comming up the same , I don’t know what is causing the variance . I’ll post a pic of my card this was the group at 400

I’d say that’s pretty decent. I’d raise your BC until it gets close and shoot it to verify.

I'm strictly amateur, but this website-based calc works pretty good for me. Its almost spot-on on all my rifles out to 500. Between 500 and 1250, it will vary some from what actually happens when you pull the trigger. I'ts never not gotten me on the big steel plate at 750, 1000, and 1250 with the first shot.

Rookie mistake shooting in a headwind plus being right at 1” high at 100 was causing high shots , I re adjusted 0 at 100 down .2 clicks and dialed the same today without a headwind and put the first 2 shots dead level with the bullseye , just a couple inches left . wind was blowing r to l at 5-6 mph and I didn’t adjust any for that I was more worried ab the vertical .

Headwind ain’t gonna make that big a difference at 400yds. Your app should have a place to put how high your sighted in at 100 or at least mine does. Glad you got in on though good shooting

Maybe check your reticle height above bore input. Awesome group, looks like you've got a shooter.

What thickness steel are you shooting at? That’s crazy clean penetration for a 6.5CM @ 400yds....nice shooting, those Tikka’s don’t play around!

They got some AR500 targets over at the academy here. If you have one close may try that.

There's actually a lot truth in that!
When I was RSO for our battalion, I always preferred to teach the guys who never grew up hunting and shooting.
It's way easier to teach someone the right way, than to get them to unlearn bad habits.
