If a family qualifies for free and reduced lunch and food stamps don't you think the cost of lunch and breakfast at school should be deducted from their monthly total since they are not having to provide those meals at home? I think parents on welfare should have to swipe their card monthly at school to pay for these services. Or at the least be docked that amount during the school year. FYI only 3% of free and reduced lunch forms can be reviewed for accuracy. And you can only do 3% if they are within 100$ of the cut off point for the family size. So basically if you write an income of $100 per month down you could not be investigated. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are, if you cant afford .75 for breakfast at school and 1.25 for lunch, you don't need kids. Your talking $10.00 a week, per child....IMO Hmmmmm, just looked at my kids lunch account. Breakfeast = Free Lunch = $2.25 Daughter averages $5.00 a day for lunch. Some sort of Flavored water for an extra $1.75 she always gets and either waffle fries or a desert for the other $1.00. Seems pretty fond of a "Big Daddy Pizza" she gets a lot of to  In any case, I put $100 month in her lunch account, with instructions to get whatever she wants as long as she is feeding herself and not the entire school. If we were real tight on money, I think I could scratch out $11.25 a week for her to eat at school.

B) I think you are right for the most part, but there are circumstances in every town that aren't quite that simple. Free and reduced lunches are probably over-given, but I have no way of knowing for sure.

Free lunch programs have no oversight. Meals are assigned based on what the parent/guardian are willing to put on the paperwork (as in " what is your income?" Answer: 0).

I know there is alot of discrepancy in the school lunch program. But I would prefer to feed a hungry child (regardless of their financial situiation) than a sorry ass adult. .02

There are always exceptions, but that doesn't make it right to make the exception for everybody that applies.
If you can't come up with $11.25 a week, how about do the following:
1) Don't buy those packs of cigarettes
2) Don't buy the beer
3) Don't swing through the drive-thru because it is convenient
4) Cut off the cable
5) Don't buy the video game systems, ipods, and smart phones
6) Cook meals at home from scratch rather than buying premade stuff
I could go on and on. Instead of coming to ask me or someone else to pay for anything, do what YOU can do first.

my wife was sending money every week to pay for my childrens lunches at school,on top of the child support that I pay,we were sending an extra 50 bucks a week,until we found out that my ex wife had our children on the free lunch program,I guess it was our fault,we should have sent a check.We went to the school and reported this,and all they said was,we have to go by the form that each family sends in. So it don't matter if someone is frauding the school system and hard working tax payers,there will be nothing done about it,makes me sick!!!!

America's poor are wealthy by most standards on earth. There are very few truly POOR people in America.
I like the lunch room idea. Brooms and Mops are easy to use and the schools can never get enough cleaning. Garbage cans can be emptied, paint applied, grass cut, leaves blown. Lots of ways to earn those meals.
There is a commercial on the radio with a kid saying 1 in 4 kids struggle with hunger. Horse chit and I tune out their message because of the lie.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

I've seen that. Kinda shocking since another commercial says 3 out of 4 kids are overweight. I guess there is no middle ground. Either the kids are starving or fat. Sadly, you can't punish the kids and I don't think anyone wants to. Making the parents come sweep and mop is a great idea.

I would think that if parents had to work in lunch rooms to be able have a child on the free lunch program. There wouldn't be very many kids getting a free lunch. When I went to school,if you didn't have lunch money, you brought something from home in a brown paper sack and you saved the sack, so you could use it again tomorrow.

I respectfully disagree. I see people everyday that are poor by any standard in Fayette county alone. People that live on 1 mustard sandwich a day because of circumstances they can't control. You ever been to green or pickens county? Some poor people there. We done mission work in San Antonio and would go hand out food. Just pull up to some of the overpasses with a box full of barbecue sandwiches and see how long they last. Had people trying to get 3-4 for ther "family". I couldn't tell them no. Some were good people that were very thankful to get a meal.
