Everyone "says" this, then secretly passes their kid the iPad when they get in the car after school. They use it till bedtime and then repeat.

No. Not everyone.

Agree. I don't claim to be parent of the year or anything, but we don't have an ipad, xbox, or even a TV for that matter. I can see the almost physical addiction my son has when he gets his hands on my phone and it is pretty obvious that we are on the right road limiting electronic babysitters.

My 12 year old is 100% addicted to video games. We have screen time limits, no electronics alone (never upstairs). The draw these electronics devices have on humans (mine is aldeer) is amazing. Moderation is such an important thing for all of mankind to learn. Be it electronics, alcohol, hobbies, etc.

Yeah, but the ratio has gone up with the last generation. I agree they(many) screw up, I also place the blame on lack of parenting. Most of the parents wanted to be their friends instead of teaching manners, limits, discipline and patriotism. Single parent homes are a big problem that leads to spoiled kids. kids that only think of me and what America owes me.

How many old farts can code? What's considered "smart" is a moving target and quite relative. Plenty of smart/dumb people in the past and now.

How many call your kids because you messed up the TV remote or your cell phone?

Watching people do dumb or dangerous crap is good entertainment. Social media has made it more available. Its just a type of comedy in most cases, that is the dumb the op is referring to. Its fairly harmless. Now the dumb perch is referring to is a serious problem and might just destroy this country. Losing a whole generation is a serious thing. Whats worse is that once weve lost one generation, the chances of getting it together with the following generation is very slim. It is very important to me that my children have a good raising, not just a good life of entertaining life. Raising kids is the most important thing a man or woman will ever do. It will decide the future, not just for them but everyone.

Yep the generation of lawn darts, bb gun wars and playing stretch while throwing knives at someones feet. Don't forget the 2 dumbest hairstyles ever invented, the mullet and the rat tail. Most of us turned out to be productive members of society and I have hope that this generation will also. They better because this is the group that will be taking care of us old timers!!!!

As much as I hate to agree with this, I don't have an argument to retaliate with so I must concur.

My take is that they are not any dumber than any other generation. They are however the laziest, most entitled, just have no drive to put in the work to succeed they just expect it to be given to them.group of people I have ever encountered. They were made this way by there parents actions. Given to much to young and for to long after they should have been adults on there own without having to do anything for it. Something like 75% of all 20-30 year olds get monetary support from there parents in some way. Prob would have been better off if we would have kicked the out at 18 and told them to figure it out or starve.

The generation that allowed and raised kids to be like this are the ones who need a good tuning up. Kids are generally gonna be dumb, the leaders of those kids made it worse.

You might have ended up crippled from the things you mentioned but at least you don't have that holler eyed look that too much screen time gives kids now a days.

I don't "need" a smart phone, I-pad, or computer.
But I do need a sharp knife on a regular basis.
