I hunt EXTREMELY thick land. I have no choice but to walk trails that I expect deer to travel when going to my stand. Will this matter? I consider myself very good at being as scent free as possible. Take all proper precautions. What would be your strategy if in this situation? Also, my cam sends me pictures and usually deer in there between 4-615.

Get a golf cart and ride it into the bushes in front of your stand. It doesn't matter how good your scent control is, the deer are still going to smell you.

I'm no expert at this, but I do spend a lot of time trying to plan entry and exit trails. The one thing I can tell you is it does little good to make a clean road through thick stuff, if the purpose is to avoid walking deer trails. If your trails are much cleaner than the existing trails, the deer are going to start using your new trail.

Get an electric bicycle and park at base of tree. If they see it, they will ignore it.

I have about 15 acres of 10 yr old cutover that I have to navigate to get to my stands. It is extremely thick. 3 years ago, i started mowing trails with my 54" zero turn mower right up to every stand I have on my property. I do this right up until bow season. I drive the mower to my feeders all summer and to check my cams. I have pics of deer, bucks and does, at the feeders within 3 minutes of leaving the area. I do this so I can walk in quietly during season.I walk on top of tracks every time I go to a stand, I guess my deer are conditioned.

I would trim a couple of the trails just enough so limbs and bushes won't rub against me and walk in , always wearing rubber or at least rubber bottom boots. If you can drive a golf cart or ride a bike in there, it doesn't meet my definition of EXTREMELY thick.

If you have a clean trail to the stand, it reduces the noise you make walking to the stand.

I always use a leaf blower to blow off the trails to my tree climber spots in the woods after the leaves have all come down.

That way there is no crunching sound going in and out.

If I cut a trail one weekend it will be full of tracks and poop the next weekend. Don't know if they are curious or just lazy

I make sure to spray my boots every time I walk in with scent killer. I watch deer walk within/ across my path in all the time. They may pause ( does are worse to be cautious than bucks) a minute but I have never seen them high tail it away. Normally when they hit it- they take a good look around- seeing nothing they proceed in a minute o two. All the while I am 30 feet up a tree watching them......
