I’ve always been told that a deer can’t smell where you walked while wearing muck boots. Is there any truth to this or is this just a saying that got preached as gospel?
I’ve honestly gotten to where I really don’t like rubber boots. They have their place, but I hunt mostly mountain sides and field edges, and I think I’d be better served with some good lace up boots. Also, mucks freeze my feet.

Rubber boots are easier to keep scent free. If your feet are getting cold in mucks you're wearing the wrong ones

The rubber doesn’t absorb oders like a leather boot will. I wear Danner Pronghorns. I put them on before heading to my stand and take them off as soon as I come out. I don’t drive with them on or hang around camp with them on. Leather boots will work just as well as rubber boots if you just take the necessary precautions.

I’ve never had any issues with my Muck boots. The Artic Pro series Muck makes are great cold weather boots.

I guarentee you a dirty pair of work boots will stop them in their tracks. Ive saw several stop when they crossed the path I tiok to my shooting house. They just stand there and look around like "ok, I know youre here somewhere", then proceed forward very cautiously.

I've always believed rubber boots didn't hold scent until I stored mine in a barrel of corn just for good measure. I'd walk from the back of my house to a single camera where I'd put out the equivalent of a coffee can full or corn every 2-4 days. I never deviated from this routine. Based on deer tracks, they would follow my tracks up to my fence gait every evening. If the gate was open, I believe they would have been on my back porch. In this same vein, I've never understood why I've seen guys from GA to SD and all points in between at the gas pump in $400 Sikta or Scentlok outfits and $200 Lacross rubber boots standing in Diesel fuel at the gas pump 5am on a Saturday morning prior to hunting...but what do I know. LoL.

I believe wearing full rubber boots like Lacrosse Burlys does more for scent control than everything combined. It’s not so much about the day your hunting but the next and so on. When that buck walks thu there at midnight and smells where you have been walking into a spot I feel he puts that on his night time only spots. The rut not so much if he’s chasing does. I’ve hid from my labs wearing rubber boots and they have no idea where I’m at. I put on my leather boots and they walk straight to me.My 2

I have Kennetreks from when I lived out West and keep them waxed up and oiled. I put em on when I'm leaving the truck, take 'em off when I'm done. Never had a problem, but I'm not a scent control dude. I just hunt the wind the best I can.

You know how you hunt a spot the first time and see a bunch of deer and spook none but the time you see less til you get down to nothing? I believe that’s we’re they are picking up your ground scent at night.

Your environment plays a far bigger role than anything else.
I'm fortunate to be hunting farmland. Our deer get used to a certain level of human scent and activity.
I could jump on a tractor, right now, and probably see 10 deer before I got to the back side of the property.
They would notice me, but go right back to eating or whatever they're doing, with little suspicion.

When they get used to a certain set of circumstances, they don’t pay any mind. Deer around where I work pay no mind to the machinery running, train cars moving, ppl moving about, etc. They don’t feel threatened by these things. I feel like remote mountain deer are much easier to spook than farm deer.

I sprayed down with dead down wind field spray, my feet especially before I went to my shooting house one day. I walked about 50yds past my shooting house to check a camera before I got in it. About ten minutes later here come my lab with his nose to the ground exactly where I had been. I dont have much confidence in that stuff.
